1930's America - A Feminist void?

I found a really interesting article here that comments on how Women's attitudes changed during and after the Great Depression regarding their position in society.

Society as a whole seemed to pigeon hole women, no doubt supported by a hugely patriarchal government, and wanted them back in their place: the Home!

Even Women of the time supported the idea, "A home, no matter how small, is large enough to occupy a wife's mind and time"

The lack of support for one another in a man's world, especially after the Suffragette's fought for their Daughters futures is frightening and yet very real. This feeling of mistrust is prevalent throughout the play as well.

CBL is a genius!

  1. That is an excellent article. It really does show, through all the different characters, what was happening for women at that time and the turmoil they must've felt. No wonder there were so many divorces! CBL is a genius, I agree
